Nicole Osten, founder and lead organizer of Sort + Style, has a passion for creating orderly systems and a keen eye for detail. As a former first-grade teacher and daycare owner, and also a wife and mother of three, she brings a deep understanding of family needs to her work. With an appreciation for the value of a well-appointed home, Nicole is dedicated to helping families create functional and beautiful spaces. Where did your organizing journey begin?
I have been professionally organizing since 2022, but I’d like to think it all started back when I’d play Barbies. I had more fun rearranging the Barbie accessories, clothes, and furniture than I did actually playing with the dolls. My type-A personality came out in elementary school when I’d offer to help the teacher organize the classroom shelves or other kids’ desks. I still love a good color code and my label maker is my best friend.
What makes you qualified to be a professional
organizer?
I was a first grade teacher for six years and owner of an in-home daycare center for almost a decade. Every August I designed a classroom with zones, shelving, containers, and labels to keep it functional and fun so everyone could thrive. When I had my babies, I opened an in-home daycare. Nurturing and teaching infants through elementary age children came naturally to me; although some friends and family questioned me having 6-8 kids in our brand new home we had just built! However, with organized systems in place, I could keep the daycare and other parts of our house tidy and peaceful. When there was chaos and a mess, which of course should happen on daycare days,
it was easy to bring back the calm because everything had its place; even the kids knew where things went! My degree in education is being put to good use, I now enjoy teaching families - both adults and children - how to live a less cluttered life through organization.
I am the mother of three very active children in travel sports, music, and theatre. I am the wife of a man who enjoys all the hobbies and all the gear - golf, fishing, and hunting. I have years of experience building systems in my own home that function and flow with ease, even for small children to understand and use successfully. I have a knack for optimizing spaces through editing and decluttering, and meticulously planning categories and zones. I tastefully curate beautiful, functional products to make client’s lives more efficient while matching the aesthetic of their home. It has never been about having a perfect home or an always tidy one - mine is not. It is, however, about having a home that is easy to manage. I am ready to serve you!
